In our society many books are banned, one of which is The Giver. This book is about a Utopian society, where the government has control. This book has many controversial issues that caused it to be banned from the public. Some of the issues with the book deal with the way the society is portrayed. There is some offensive language and characters used in the book that lead the book to being banned in 1995 in Franklin, Kansas. Many parents and teachers complained about the book.
I think that The Giver is a great book for students to read to learn about a Utopian society. The book makes you think about how uncontrolled we are in our society. I think that is is wrong to banned this book, because it is a great piece of literature to learn from as a student. If only some people could be allowed to read this book, i think it should be students, so they understand the world we live in and just gets them to think about the possibilities of our society.
People think that The Giver is to controversial for students and children to read, but I think that people need to understand the concepts of this book and that the offensive language can be looked past. This book is telling a story that needs to be understood.
